Chiropractic Beliefs Dr. Dahl's Goals |
History & EducationDr. Eric Dahl grew up as a middle child on a farm outside of Hazelton, Idaho, with two brothers and two sisters. “Until I was in the sixth grade I got up every morning with my dad to milk and feed the cows. We had chickens, a few pigs and a couple of horses that needed attention too.” During the summer he and his brothers would move waterlines, round up cattle, and help their dad get the hay in. Between the animals and the crops, there was always something that needed to be done. Right after his 12th birthday his family moved into Twin Falls. “I guess you could say I was glad when we moved off the farm, I figured that I’d finally be able to sleep in… wrong. My dad had me get a paper route. I guess he was trying to teach me something.” From the time on the farm up through high school Eric went to a chiropractor with his family. “I don’t remember how often we went but I remember going and always feeling better after getting adjusted.” During high school Eric was pretty active. He got his first part time job (aside from the paper route) at a bike shop when he was in the 9th grade. His sophomore year he started working at Kelley Garden Center where he worked up through graduation from high school. “I didn't participate in school sports because I always had a job after school. Recreational sports were always more fun for me than team sports.” Eric enjoyed scouting and learned to love camping, fishing, cycling. After high school came a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I found out that the Spanish I learned in school was quite a bit different than the Spanish in Argentina. Living in Buenos Aires for two years was quite an experience. Upon returning from his mission he met his future wife Tiffany at a church activity. They dated for a few months and after being separated by attending different schools (he was at Ricks College and she was at Brigham Young University) they got married. It was at college that Eric decided he wanted to be a chiropractor. “I went and talked to a chiropractor and he ended up hiring me the next day. For the next two years I saw some amazing things happen in his office.” After finishing his undergraduate work at BYU, his wife and son moved to Davenport, Iowa to go to chiropractic school. While at chiropractic school their second son was born. “I told my wife she had to wait to have the baby until after finals. Her due date was a week after finals were over. Well, Henry was ready to be born a week early--right in the middle of tests.” Coming back to Idaho was always a given. “Both our families are from here and we love the northwest.” Finding a place to practice and settle down happened during a trip to Boise. “We found an office that was looking for another doctor and found a little apartment to rent.” Since then Dr. Eric bought the office he was working in and moved his family into a house. The latest development in the “life and times” of Dr Eric is the new office location. “Moving into the new office was quite an adventure. Not one I regret, just not an adventure I plan on doing again anytime soon.” Two other kids have joined the family since finishing chiropractic school. The Dahl family now has three boys and a little girl, Oliver, Henry, Jack and Elsie. Eric, and his wife Tiffany, live in Meridian. Why Do I Believe in Chiropractic? When people ask me why I am a chiropractor I have to tell them there are three reasons. The first reason is that chiropractic helped me. When I was growing up on our family farm, my dad would take us in to town to see the local chiropractor, Dr. Fox. I remember as a kid that no matter what I felt like going in to the chiropractor, I always felt better when I left. That really didn’t hit home or stick with me until later in my life. We moved from the farm into Twin Falls when I was 12 and between biking, sledding, skiing, and just being a teenager I would hurt my back every once in a while. Getting adjusted would help me feel better. The second reason I became a chiropractor was I saw how chiropractic helped others. When I was in college I worked in a chiropractic clinic for two years. It was probably during this time that my desire to become a chiropractor was really solidified. I saw many different people with many different problems coming in to be adjusted and all being helped by chiropractic. I thought it would be great to be able to help people the way I had been helped and the way others were being helped in the clinic where I worked. The third reason I tell people why I am a chiropractor is because it just makes sense. The body has a biological ability to care for itself within limits. That ability is either enhanced or inhibited by the integrity of the nervous system. The nerves that leave the spine go either directly or indirectly to every part of the body. This connection that the body has with the brain and nervous system must remain clear or free from irritation for us to experience maximum health. Obviously many health problems come from causes other than nerve irritation, i.e.. stress, diet, lack of exercise etc. Nevertheless most people neglect one of the most important parts of the body that we have; the spine. By taking care of the spine and nervous system, I’ve not only helped people get rid of their aches and pains but also helped them enjoy a higher level of health, which translates into a higher quality of life. The best part is that it is a drug-free and natural approach to health. GoalsMy mission, the mission of my clinic, is to educate as many people as possible about the benefits of chiropractic so they may in turn educate others. So many people are taking unnecessary medications, having unnecessary surgeries and suffering needlessly. I know there are many out there that can be helped like I was helped. I’m just trying to get the word out. |
